Fan-Based Convention to be Held in Orlando, FL, Feb. 27- March 1

An independent short film festival, panel discussions, media guests, and exhibitor expo highlight the annual event.

The giant MegaCon 2009, a celebration of science fiction, fantasy, horror, anime, graphic art, and other imaginative endeavors, includes a significant amount of attention to film and television. The annual three-day convention will be held this year at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

Presentations and Panel Discussions

Several MegaCon programs relate directly to the film and television industry. These include:

Turn Your Idea Into a TV Show: Mark Simon, founder of SellYourConceptNow.com with more than 2,700 productions to his credit, directs a session on how to sell a show to the networks.

Arne Starr’s Trailer Park: Trailers and gossip about what’s new in Hollywood including the latest on Harry Potter and Star Trek.

Hardware Store Props: Scott Will and other members of the 501st Legion teach how to make movie props from common materials.

Talk to the Girls of Horror: A question-and-answer session with Ami Dolenz (Witchboard Two and Pumpkinhead II) and Darcy DeMoss (Friday the 13th, parts VI and VII), hosted by Jimmy Palmiotti.

Anime Voice Actors Panel: Hosted by Anime Sushi featuring Vic Mignogna (Dragonball Z, Fullmetal Alchemist), Colleen Clinkenbeard (Fullmetal Alchemist), Caitlin Glass (Fullmetal Alchemist, Cammy Street Fighter IV), and Aaron Dismuke (Fullmetal Alchemist, Fruit Baskets).

Independent Filmmaking Panel: As part of MegaCon’s Indie Film Expo, publisher Terry Cronin will host a panel discussion with filmmakers and actors about independent filmmaking.

Troma Presents: Lloyd Kaufman hosts a “Direct Your Own Damn Movie!” panel with footage and information from his new book.

The Graves: The inside scoop and a preview of the new horror film The Graves.

Battlestar Galactica Old and New: Seven actors from the television show sit down for a question-and-answer session.

The Fifth Annual MegaCon Indie Film Expo

Short independent films from the science fiction, fantasy, horror, comedy, anime, animation, and superhero genres are showcased in this 90-minute event hosted by 3 Boys Productions, the founders of the Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival in Melbourne, Florida.

“To The Future” Included in Exhibitor Expo

Among the many exhibitors presenting their messages and selling their wares at MegaCon will be Oliver and Terry Holler with their “time traveling” DeLorean that they built. These avid Back to the Future fans journey throughout America trying to raise awareness and funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research through their "To The Future" car exhibit. Fox, who starred in the action-adventure trilogy, suffers from this degenerative disorder.
